Grand lake fishing report May 20th, 2019

This was an awesome weekend to do some crappie fishing! The water was VERY high but we managed to find a boat ramp that wasn’t flooded and the crappie fishing slay fest was on! We caught crappie on Friday May 17th around Bernice bridge in 20 – 30 ft of water using live minnows and Bone Head Tackle black and chart jigs. The crappie were suspended anywhere from 10 – 15 feet. White bass and hybrids were running at 5ft so we had to drop our baits fast enough to get past the hybrids to the crappie. Sunday May 19th we continued the crappie catching madness around the Bernice area. A lot more fish came to the area and were scattered everywhere due to the storm on Saturday. We caught 41 crappie and 20 hybrids using live minnows and Bone Head Tackle jigs. crappie were suspended anywhere from 10 to 20 ft in 30 – 45 ft of water! Also present were small blue cats, sandbass and hybrids. We had to watch the sonar carefully to find the suspended crappie while trying to stay away blues and hybrids. It was a lot of fun this weekend! If you can manage to get your boat out GO CATCH THEM! They are there!
